What Causes Back Pain?

If you experience persistent back pain that is becoming chronic, you will want to keep reading. A Georgetown University study found that 8% of all adults in the US experience persistent or chronic back pain with health care costs of over $12 billion a year. These numbers say that there is no conventional, widely utilized treatment that is resolving this problem for people.

Consider the conventional approach for a moment. Conservative options attempt to restore motion in order to reduce pain, while more invasive strategies use drugs and surgery. Although both conservative and invasive treatments can be effective in the short term, according to the statistics, the original symptoms inevitably return and tend to get worse over time.

Cambridge chiropractor, Dr. Brad Winter, has found that conventional treatments for back pain miss an important causative factor by not check for, or properly addressing spinal distortion. When spinal distortion is present, the spine is out of efficiency, causing more wear & tear and less opportunity for the spine to heal properly. When spinal distortion is effectively corrected, the body regains its efficiency with gravity, and tendons, ligaments, and nerves can finally heal and stabilize. This is a process that is simply missed by conventional methods just trying to treat the pain.

Countless back pain patients have avoided addictive drugs and dangerous surgeries by addressing spinal distortion from its origin, which is a shift in the structure of the spine that created a weakness the body was unable to self-correct (thus spinal distortion). Cambridge chiropractor, Dr. Brad Winter says, “The first step is to check if spinal distortion is present. If it is, is there a structural shift causing that? If yes to that as well, then unless the shift and distortion are corrected, the spine will simply never regain efficiency and heal properly.”

This solution sounds simple, however the greatest obstacle is being able to see that back pain is often a secondary condition that will never go away until the primary condition is addressed. This can never happen when conventional treatments ignore the primary condition completely.
